Seoul

Originating from the ancient word of “Seorabeol” or “Seobeol” meaning "capital”, Seoul is one of the most vigorous and colourful cities in Asia. After being the historical capital of the Baekje and Joseon dynasties for many centuries, Seoul has now grown to be a leading mover on the international scene.

Seoul has been key to South Korea's development and is often referred to as the "Miracle on the Han River". Headquarters to some of the world’s largest corporations, its economy has been growing at one of the fastest paces in the world, rapidly transforming Seoul into an urban, highly educated and technologically advanced society.

But do not be mistaken in thinking that the imposing modern feel of Seoul has erased its ancient roots. Rather, Seoul has found a gentle balance between its future and its past; innovation and tradition; global trends and local custom. Interspersed with skyscrapers and modern shopping malls are beautiful old palaces and museums, traditional markets, peaceful pagodas, temples and gardens.

The soul of Seoul and of the entire country is its people. An open-minded and welcoming community from which visitors will receive warm hospitality and where language is never really a barrier!

Enjoy Seoul in all its facets and after the Forum, take the opportunity to enjoy Korea and all it has to offer: from glorious mountains, river valleys and sandy subtropical beaches to ancient treasures and heritage sites, culinary delicacies and colourful folklore.
